Cleaning your
60° fixed lean pipe joint isn't just about making it look good—it's about removing contaminants that cause wear and corrosion. Here's how to do it right:
Step 1: Remove Loose Debris
Start by using the soft-bristle brush to sweep away dust, dirt, and loose particles from the joint and the surrounding
lean pipe. Pay special attention to the crevices where the joint meets the pipe—this is where debris loves to hide and trap moisture, leading to rust. For stubborn dust in tight spots, use the flashlight to spot hidden buildup, then gently brush it out.
Step 2: Clean Grease and Grime
Next, mix a few drops of mild detergent with warm water and dip a microfiber cloth into the solution (don't soak the cloth—you want it damp, not dripping). Wipe down the entire joint, focusing on areas with visible grease (common around workbenches or material racks where oils from parts or tools accumulate). For extra-tough grime, let the soapy cloth sit on the joint for 30 seconds before wiping—this breaks down the grease without scrubbing.
Step 3: Tackle Corrosion (If Needed)
If you notice light corrosion (small rust spots, especially on chrome-plated joints), mix equal parts white vinegar and water and apply it to the affected area with a cloth. Let it sit for 5 minutes, then wipe clean with a damp cloth.
Note:
Avoid vinegar on PE coated
lean pipe or plastic components, as it can damage the coating. For these, stick to mild soap and water.
Step 4: Dry Thoroughly
Moisture is the enemy of metal joints, so after cleaning, dry the joint completely with a clean microfiber cloth. If the joint is in a humid area (like a warehouse with poor ventilation), consider using a fan to speed up drying. Never leave a joint damp—it's an open invitation for rust.
Step 5: Inspect the Finish
While the joint is clean, check its outer finish. For chrome-plated joints, look for peeling or chipping plating—this exposes the underlying metal to corrosion. For painted or powder-coated joints, check for scratches or cracks in the finish. A damaged finish isn't just cosmetic; it's a weak point that needs attention (we'll cover fixes in the inspection section).
